Being the center of Northeast China Plain, Changchun is the capital city of Jilin Province owning about 7.5 million people. About half of its people live in the urban area of Changchun city. The history of Changchun started probably from the Emperor Jiaqing of Qing Dynasty as a minor trading small town. As the railway built in May 1898, Changchun became connected to the current most important city in that area, Harbin.
Changchun has been through a tough time back to the Chinese civil war as Kuomintang and communists battled for months and directly lead to massive civilian deaths.
Having a humid continental climate, Changchun has a rather long, cold and windy winter which can last for five months. But Changchun enjoyed an economic boom being the largest automobile manufacturing base in China. Other than that, food industries, photo-electronic information, biology and medicine are also its supporting business.
In order to facilitate the economy and the everyday lives of people in Jilin Province, the government put a tremendous effort in building its infrastructure such as road, railways, air plane.
