Harbin is located in the Northeast part of China. Being the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, it is located on the southern bank of the Songhua River.
Featuring a humid continental climate, the weather in Harbin is fierce, hot in summers and cold in winters. It has a terribly cold winter thus make it an ideal place for ice sculptures in winter.
Back to the 1920s, Harbin was regarded as a fashionable city because of its business connections with Russia.
As the tenth largest city in China, Harbin is actually dated from a very small village since 1898. The railway construction connecting Dalian and Port Arthur made Harbin an important place in transportation. What is more, Harbin is the conjunction of five major railways in China.
As for the economy, Harbin is playing a vital role in the area by owning a huge amount of nature resources, ideal transportation conditions and large amount of human resources.
The most unique part of the city of Harbin is the culture which combines the Han culture, the Manchu culture and the Russian Culture.
