With Nanchang as its capital,Jiangxi Province,which is abbreviated as “Gan”,is located to the south of Chang Jiang,along Gan Jiang.It covers an area of over 160000 square kilometers,and has a population of 43.2 million,including such ethnic groups as She,Hui,Mongol,Miao and Zhuang.
Mountains and hills take up most part of Jiangxi province.Subtropical humid monsoon climate rules the area,which brings about adequate sunshine,plenty of rainfall and a mild climate with distinctive seasonal difference.
By now over 140 kinds of minerals were found in Jiangxi,a province most famous for its production of minerals like copper,tungsten,uranium,rare earth and tantalum.With over 2400 rivers and many lakes,the province is rich with water resources.
Jiangxi is one of China’s major production bases of grain and by-products.Rice is the main grain crop planted in Poyanghu pingyuan.Jiangxi is traditional known for its production of green tea,black tea,bamboo shoots,sturgeon and other aquatic products.Local flavours like salted duck,ham,chillipaste and rice noodle are liked by many.
