Jilin province is located in the central part of Northeast China,its capital is Changchun.Covering an area of over 180000 square kilometers,it has a population of 26.59 million.
Jilin is high in the southeast and low in the northwest.Mountains and hills are mainly in the northeast part,while in the midwest lie two plains-Songnen Pingyuan and Liaohe Pingyuan.There are many rivers flowing through this province of which over 16 rivers have drainage areas larger than 50 square kilometters.Numerous lakes are found in this region,among which nearly 1400 lakes are larger than 6 hectares,adding up to a total acreage of 1650 square meters.
Jilin is a major production region of commodity grain and soybean in China.As a major forest area in China,Changbaishan is a supply center of wood,raw material for paper making and Chinese medicinal herbs.
Jilin has abundant tourism resources,most of which are along the route of Changchun-Jilin-Songhua Jiang-Changbai Shan.Changbaishan,a national nature reserve,is located in the southeast of jilin province.Known for its vertical change in nature scenery and primitive ecosystem,this area is listed as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
