Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province, starts its history from the Qin Dynasty in the 6th century BC. It enjoys a booming history until Japanese fiercely destroyed the city by bombs. Now, the Roman Catholic diocese has a vacant there in Lanzhou.
The famous Yellow River flows from west to east through Lanzhou make it a naturally advantage for it. Being in the temperate zone, Lanzhou has a semi-arid climate with a quite hot summer and cold, dry winter. Sadly, Lanzhou has the most severe air pollution among all the cities in China which might be a cause for the muddy appearance of Yellow River.
Since the establishment of PRC, Lanzhou has strived to increase its GDP and turned itself from a poverty-stricken city to a major industrial area. Owning a massive amount of natural resources, minerals and hydropower, Lanzhou is actually very competitive in industry world. What is worth mentioning is Lanzhou being one centers of the national nuclear power industry since 1960s.
Now as the economic development, Lanzhou is gradually building a robust transportation system ranging from airlines to bus service, which convenience people’s daily life.
