As one of China's most important cities , Nanjing located in the lower Yangtze River drainage basin and Yangtze River Delta economic zone . During several historical periods , it served as the capital of China . So it is also listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.
With a total land area of 6,598 square kilometers , Nanjing is situated in one of the largest economic zones of China, the Yangtze River Delta . The total population of the City of Nanjing reached 7.7 million in 2008. And Nanjing is the second largest commercial center in the East China region .
Nanjing has a humid subtropical climate . It has plenty of rainfall throughout the
year. And in summer it is so hot that often referred to as one of the "Three Furnacelike Cities" along the Yangtze River.
For more than 1700 years , Nanjing has been the educational center in southern China. Nowadays , with a long cultural tradition and strong support from local educational institutions, Nanjing is commonly considered as a “city of culture” and one of the most pleasant cities to live in China. |
