With Yinchuan as its capital,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region as located in Northwest China,along the upper and middle reaches of Huang He.It covers an area of 66000 square kilometers,and has a population of 5.8 million.
Temperature semi-humid and semi-arid continental climate rules the autonomous region,bring about very few rainfall and strong frequent winds together with sands.Nearly 400kilometers of Huang He run through Ningxia ,bringing an irrigation capacity of four billion cubic meters to this region.However,the per capita water resource possession is still lower than that of China’s average quantity.
By drawing water from Huang He into agriculture irrigation,Ningxia become one of China’s production bases of commodity grain.Rice,wheat,corn,broomcorn and glutinous millet are planted together with benne,beet,rape and various fruits.
With rich heritage combining the culture of the migrants,the boundary areas,Islam,and the Western Xia Dynasty culture,there are rich tourism resources in Ningxia.The King’s Mausoleums of Western Xia Dynasty,oftern called the Pyramids of China,faces Helan Mountain.where ten thousand of cliff carvings by ancient nomads are found.
