Tibet is located on the southwest part of Qingzang Gaoyuan,along the southwest border of China.With Lhasa as its capital,It covers an area of over 1.2 million square kilometers,and has a population of 2.59 million,including such enthnic groups as Tibetan,Hui,Lhoba and Naxi,among which Tibetan take up 95% of the total population.
The average altitude of Tibet ranges from above 5000 meters in the west to around 4ooo meters in the east,and is names “the roof of the world”.Arid highland climate here are characterized by sharp vertical change in temperature.in general,long hours of sunshine here are balanced by low temperature,sparse rainfall,low oxygen and low air pressure,causing sharp change in daily temperature.
As one of the major primitive forest zones in China,Tibet’ forest covers a total area of 4.09 million hectares,mostly pine trees,firs,and cypress.Exuberate grass make this region one of China’s major pastures.
Tibet holds great attraction for scholars,tourists and explorers from China and abroad for its majestic and grand scenery,and mysterious religious culture.
