Yunnan, literally "South of the Clouds" , has Kunming as its capital city. Yunnan is located in the far southwest of the country , a mountainous area, with low elevations in the southeastand high elevations in the northwest .And most of the population lives in the eastern part of the province. As in the west, the relative height from mountain peaks to river valleys can reach 3,000 m .And the northern part of the province forms part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
Not only Yunnan is rich in natural resources but also it has the largest diversity of plants in China. So the province has been called a natural zoological and botanical garden. Having over 600 rivers and lakes, Yunnan is the source of two rivers, the Xi River and the Yuan River.
Thanks to its beautiful landscapes, mild climate especially colorful ethnic minorities,Yunnan Province is one of China's major tourist destinations. |
